Dr. Rukmani Krishnamurthy is the Chairperson & CEO, Helik Advisory Ltd. Mumbai. The first Eminent Lady Forensic Scientist of the Country, she entered the forensic field in the year 1974 with much opposition and when half the people did not know the relevance of forensics. She achieved the top position in Forensic field at Global level. The journey of the lady forensic scientist was a difficult path with taunt from seniors questioning what a lady can do in forensics. The first time she was not sent to crime scene because she was a lady made her wild and she protested that as per the appointment letter visit to crime scene is a part of her duty. In Matunga train fire on 13th Feb 1976 killing twenty-four passengers due the burning inferno due to the breeze of the running train caught with fire. She helped in detecting traces of kerosene in the burnt debris and the half burnt plastic container indicating the passenger carrying kerosene in the train which must have caught fire due to cigar bud. A pilot experiment was carried out to prove it scientifically. She insisted that the authority ban carrying inflammable article like petrol, kerosene etc in public transport. The same was immediately implemented. As Director, Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories, Govt. of Maharashtra, she created six world class Forensic labs at Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Aurangabad, Nasik and Amarvati and provided new techniques like DNA, Cyber Forensic, Speaker Identification, tape authentication, Lie detector, Narco-analysis and Brain signature profiling to cater to Hi-Tech crime during the period 2002-2008. Visited seven countries as guest speaker at international Forensic conferences, She also chaired many sessions in forensic conferences and seminars. She has Published 110 research papers, was member of all central Forensic committees, received 12 national and international awards including best Forensic Director, Life time achievement in forensic field from Govt. of India. Handled high profile crime cases, visited National level crime scenes like 1993 Mumbai Blast cases. invited by Interpol for discussion at Lyon, France; Telgi -Stamp Scam cases; Blast cases at Ghatkhoper, Mulund, Twin Blast at Gateway and Zaveri Bazar,11/7 etc. She as Technical Adviser, Institute of Forensic Science, Higher and Technical education Department, Government of Maharashtra, established three Institute of Forensic Science at Mumbai, Aurangabad and Nagpur in a short span of three years (2009-2011). Have written two books on Forensic Science and many articles in magazine. Organized number of Forensic National conferences for students, Forensic Scientists, Judges, etc. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” Her dream of serving the common people, corporate segment and larger segment who is in need of forensic services has now reached a substantial stage where-in fully equipped forensic laboratory with latest techniques and equipments has been launched in the commercial capital of India, Mumbai in the name of “HELIK ADVISORY LTD.” in 2011. Helik Advisory is the first private Indian organization with an ISO certification in the area of Forensic and Allied services to have a fully equipped, world-class laboratory at par with FBI, USA, after her recent visit to the prestigious FBI USA. Gujarat Forensic Science University, Gujarat State, has approved Helik Advisory Ltd. as Research Centre for R&D in Forensic and related research work. Through Helik she wants to take Forensics to common man in the form of Preventive, social, Industrial and rural Forensics. She has plans to expand Helik”s arms to other domestic and International market. Seeing Helik’s credentials the following Government/Public agencies like Income-Tax, Govt. Pleader, High Court Mumbai, Civil Judge, Family court, GST,ED,SEBI, Number of Bank, Insurance company of India, , Govt. of Maharashtra, MNC, Law firms, Big four etc , have assigned Forensic Jobs to Helik Advisory Ltd for time targeted authentic forensic reports. She is the Academic Council Member of National Forensic Science University, MHA, Govt. of India and also a guide for Ph.D students in Forensic Science. As Academic council Member she takes a keen interest in academic forensic Science and innovative development of forensic science to serve the students. Being one of the senior forensic scientist of the country She regularly interact with senior Judges of session court, High court and supreme court in providing forensic inputs in important matters.
