Introduction to Human Anatomy
Human anatomy is the study of the shape and form of the human body. The human body has four limbs (two arms and two legs), a head and a neck which connect to the torso. The body's shape is determined by a strong skeleton made of bone and cartilage, surrounded by fat, muscle, connective tissue, organs, and other structures. The spine at the back of the skeleton contains the flexible vertebral column which surrounds the spinal cord, which is a collection of nerve fibres connecting the brain to the rest of the body.
Let's have a look at the answers with their explanation.
Que 1. Which is the hardest part of the body
a) Cartilage
b) Tissue
c) Enamel
d) Hair
Answer - (c) Enamel
Explanation - Because it does not
disintegrate to great extent in adverse environmental conditions.
Que 2. Which is the most important bone from
evolutionary view point, that was helpful in bipedalism.
a) Tibia
b) Skull
c) Femur
d) Humerus
Answer - (c) Femur
Explanation - Because the posterior
aspect of its shaft has lineaaspera- area where muscle adductor magnus,
adductor longus & adductor brevis attaches to lineaaspera, much needed for
bipedal locomotion.
Que 3. The number of bones in a human hand are
a) 64
b) 32
c) 14
d) 27
Answer - (d) 27
Explanation - Hand comprises of 8
wrist (carpel) bone, 5 meta-carpels and 14 phalanges.
Que 4. Long bone is characterized by
a) Epiphysis
b) Epiphysis, diaphysis and medullary cavity
c) Medullary cavity
d) All the Above
Answer - (b) Epiphysis
Explanation - Diaphysis and medullary cavity. A long bone has one upper end and one lower end (epiphysis), a shaft (diaphysis)- between two epiphysis and a hollow cavity in the shaft.
Que 5. Largest sesamoid bone in human body is
a) Patella
b) Meta carpel
c) Tarsal
d) Vertebra
Answer - (a) Patella
Explanation – It is the bone placed in between lower condyles of femur and condyles of tibia bone and seed like in morphology.
Que 6. Atlanto- axial joint is which type of joint
a) Saddle joint
b) Imperfect joint
c) Gliding joint
d) Pivot joint
Answer - (d) Pivot joint
Explanation - In pivot joint which
one of the bones is fixed and has a peg like projection while the other bone
rotates on this fixed bone. Joint between 1st& 2nd
cervical vertebra.
Que 7. Which of the following is a twin bone in human body?
a) Bone of forearm
b) Bone of upper arm
c) Thigh bone
d) None of the above
Answer - (a) bone of forearm
Explanation - The forearm of human
body has two bones- radius & ulna. Radius is laterally placed, towards the
thumb, while ulna is placed medially towards little finger.
Que 8. Scapula is a
a) Irregular bone
b) Flat bone
c) Pneumatic bone
d) Synovial joint
Answer - (b) Flat bone
Explanation - Scapula is plate like
flat bone of shoulder & triangular in shape.
Que 9 . Shin bone is another name for
a) Fibula
b) Tibia
c) Femur
d) Hip bone
Answer - (b) Tibia
Explanation - Because the front part
of lower leg below the knee to ankle is called shin, where the tibia lies
underneath on medial side, hence the name.
Que 10. True ribs are
a) 5
b) 7
c) 12
d) All the above
Answer - (b) First seven ribs
Explanation - Because only these are
directly attached to the sternum, whereas the rest attach themselves to the one
upper rib. For example, 8th rib is attached to 7th and 9th
to the 8th and so on….
Que 11. Human vertebral column has how many curves and its shape ?
a) Two convex curves & U shaped
b) Two concave curves & S shaped
c) Two convex and two concave curves & double S shaped
d) None of the above
Answer - (c) 4 curves & double S shaped.
Explanation - This has helped human
species to have an erect posture, as our body axis become vertical to the
ground, further helps us in managing our body weight.
Que 12. The last cartilaginous part of sternum is
a) Body of sternum
b) Manubrium sterni
c) Xiphoid process
d) All the above
Answer - (c) Xiphoid process
Que 13. The number of facial bones
in cranium are
a) 14
b) 29
c) 8
d) 10
Answer - (a) 14
Que 14. The bone that starts ossifying first in body is
a) Mandible
b) Clavicle
c) Sternum
d) Radius
Answer - (b) Clavicle
Explanation - Ossification of cartilage
or membrane into bone starts with this, followed by mandible.
Que 15. A vertebra devoid of body & spine is
a) Lumbar
b) Axis
c) Atlas
d) 1st thoracic
Answer - (c) Atlas
Explanation - 1st cervical vertebra does not has
the above mentioned characteristics as its condyles fit in with the occipital
condyles of foramen magnum, so that the skull is well balanced on neck
region.
